Island-wide rainfall at 175 per cent above October average

Rainfall was estimated to be 175 per cent above the October average the meteorological service reported on Friday.

According to the service’s data, total rainfall for October first to the twenty-sixth reached 57.2mm, while the average for the month is 32.7mm.

In some areas larger percentage increases were noted, the service added, with Platania recording an approximate 600 per cent increase, and Prodromos hitting an approximate 500 per cent increase, in comparison with the average figures for October.

The Platania area received approximately 277.6mm of rainfall, a 595 per cent increase above the average, while the Prodromos area received approximately 223.2mm of rainfall, a 474 per cent increase.

The area of Stavros tis Psokas in the Paphos district received 90.3mm of rain and in the Athienou area of Larnaca there was 69.9mm of rainfall, the meteorological service said.

According to the data, the smallest amount of rainfall was recorded in Limassol, where 9.6mm of rain was received, which correlates to 38 per cent.  The Paphos airport area received 9.9mm of rainfall and the Frenaros area in Famagusta received 15.5mm of rainfall.
