Archbishop discharged from hospital after op

Archbishop Chrysostomos was discharged on Monday from a London hospital where he had undergone successful surgery to remove two small tumours.

Speaking on state television, Chrysostomos, who appeared to be in good spirits, said he would be returning to Cyprus on October 30.

The archbishop said he was fit to travel but was going to wait in London for the results of a biopsy.

He urged people with potentially similar problems to act as soon as possible to avoid the worst.

“If caught early cancer is treatable,” he said.

The archbishop had revealed in an interview that he had been recently diagnosed with liver cancer.

News of the archbishop’s cancer diagnosis has been accompanied by what the archbishop referred to as the “petty” behaviour of those already preparing to succeed him.
