Old music in a modern academy

Paphos loves classical music. It proves it every year with the Aphrodite Festival and other events organised around the city. This week the love affair will continue with a performance by three musicians at the Modern Music Academy on Wednesday.

The performance will bring together Tatiana Stupak on piano, Marianna Doncheva and Pavel Rotaru on the violin. The trio will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s Double violin concerto in D minor BWV 1043, Astor Piazzolla’s Oblivion, for two violins and piano, Alexander Frolov’s Divertissement for two violins and piano, David Pentecost’s Nocturne Op.18 and also compositions by Beethoven, Chopin and others.

Stupak started piano lessons at the age of five and found a real talent for the instrument. This talent led her to study at the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in Saint Petersburg. She is the winner of a Bach international competition and an organ international competition in Russia, and she has performed in Austria, Germany and Russia. She opened the Tatiana Stupak School of Music in Limassol in 2017 for piano and other instruments.

Doncheva started violin lessons at the age of six and went on to study at the Gavriil Musicescu State Conservatory of Music. She has worked as first violin with several orchestras as well as giving solo performances with several orchestras. She is currently the leader of the second violins in the Commandaria String Orchestra and also leader of the second violins in the Avanti Crossover Symphonic Orchestra.

Rotaru also started to learn the violin at six-years-old and continued to learn at The Gavriil Musicescu State Univerity of Arts in the class of N.Hosh. He has been a tutti first violinist in many symphonies, including the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Botosani. He has taken part in many concert tours as first violin in a number of countries and has played as a soloist with several orchestras.
