A whole village of learning

Creativity is not a given, even for artists or people who want to extend their knowledge with workshops. This is why the Fengaros Music Village 2018 offers six days away from it all and a chance to take part in a number of workshops.

For the fifth year, the Fengaros Music Village will be held in the village of Kato Drys in Larnaca. This year the music village will offer ten music and storytelling workshops, one architecture workshop and an artist residency. Artists from Cyprus, Greece and England will coordinate the workshops, proposing alternative methods of learning and creating.

For those who want to get creative with writing, Giorgos Kalogirou will offer a creative writing workshop under the name Place – Lyric – Sound. The workshop will enable musicians, performers, composers, songwriters and poets to develop and strengthen their artistic judgement both as listeners and as composers, with the ultimate goal of improving their own musical creativity.

If you like the idea of telling stories then the storytelling workshop with Marina Katsari is the one for you. Katsari is a regular at the festival and this year she will ask participants to wear the shoes of their imaginary heroes and borrow their senses so as to experience – as storytellers – their stories with their own body.

Participants will examine the frame and the boundaries of the relationship between the storyteller and his story and they will explore empathy as a factor of successful storytelling. This year’s workshop is designed so as to equally include experienced participants as well as those who are just beginning their journey.

On the music front there is lots to choose from, such as the modern guitar workshop with Ermis Michael. During the lessons participants will work on technique, aesthetics and building a musical vocabulary in all aspects (melody, harmony and rhythm). This process will aid the development of ideas that will potentially become original compositions or rearrangements. Stylistically, the workshop will cover a variety of musical styles.

Each workshop lasts for around 30 hours and they will take place during the morning and afternoon hours, while the evening concerts and presentations, which are open to the public, will complete the daily schedule.
