Eight people arrested during gambling raid

Police arrested eight people on Friday night during a raid on an establishment in Limassol where electronic gambling was believed to be taking place.

Members of the police crime prevention unit located 12 computers in the establishment which are believed to have been turned into electronic gambling devices. In the shop were a 31-year-old woman who works as the manager of the business and three customers.

Outside the business were three men, aged 47, 41 and 39, who were acting as security guards but who did not have the necessary licence to carry out that profession.

During a search in the house of the establishment’s 35-year-old owner, officers located a laptop and 23 bank cheques for various sums.

All eight of them were arrested, police said.

Police also confiscated the 12 computers, a laptop and cash found in the shop, as well a surveillance system and two cameras that were recording public space.
