Going back to our musical youth

Were your teenage years somewhere in the 1980s and 1990s? Did you grow up on Greek pop? If yes, then note that the era is making a comeback on Saturday, with Katy Garbi performing in Protaras and Thanos Kalliris taking a break from his regular slot in Nicosia to give a show in Limassol.

We may have already let the cat out of the bag, but both these artists have more than 20 years of experience in the world of Greek music.

Garbi has several multi-platinum releases under her belt, and who could forget her Eurovision Song Contest participation in 1993. You may remember that she came ninth, you may remember that the song was called ‘Ellada, Hora Tou Fotos’, and you most certainly will remember the dress she was wearing with the massive slits down the sides. This all happened in 1993 and the 90s just kept getting better for her as she released two of the best-selling albums of the decade.

Kalliris also represented Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest, in 1987, with the song ‘Stop’, which he performed with Vassilis Dertillis as part of the group Bang. When he decided to fly solo, he released hit after hit, and ballad after ballad. A real teenager of the 90s surely remembers his songs ‘Giortazo’, ‘O Nous Sou Kirie Odige’ and the song he sang with fellow Greek singer Labis Livieratos, ‘O Neos Ine Oreos’.

Want to go back to your youth? Saturday will make it all happen.
