Surgical beds used 93 times each in Limassol hospital last year

The surgical ward of the Limassol general hospital treated over 17,000 people in 2017, according to an announcement released on Tuesday.

The numbers showed 3,517 patients had been admitted with an average of 92.5 admissions per bed per year.

Another 13,523 patients were examined or underwent a minimally invasive diagnostic and / or therapeutic treatment.

The department is staffed by eight specialist surgeons, eight doctors in training and 40 nurses.

It includes a separate clinic for breast and thyroid surgeries as well as morbid obesity unit which took on over 6,400 patients in 2017 while 300 patients were subjected to a breast or thyroid biopsy under ultrasound or mammography. Of these, 136 cases were surgeries relating to thyroid.
