Don’t keep bank notes at home, says CBC

The Central Bank (CBC) advised the public on Friday against keeping bank notes at home or at their place of work because they may suffer damage and lose their value.

This came following a recent trend, according to the CBC, of members of the public asking that their damaged banknotes be exchanged for new ones.

“Bank notes that for whatever reason have been damaged (partially burned, stained, soaked or altered due to moisture) cannot be exchanged if more than half of the note has been destroyed or damaged to the extent that its authenticity cannot be confirmed,” the CBC said.

The public is asked to take into consideration, the CBC added, such dangers when deciding to keep banknotes at home or anywhere else.
