President to depart on high-profile visit to Qatar

PRESIDENT NICOS Anastasiades and First Lady Andri Anastasiades depart Sunday on an official visit to Qatar accompanied by a high-level delegation.

The Cypriot delegation includes Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, Agriculture Minister Nicos Kouyialis, government spokesman Christos Stylianides, Undersecretary to the President Constantinos Petrides, and director of the president’s diplomatic office Nicos Christodoulides.

On Monday, Anastasiades will meet with the CEO of the Qatar Investment Authority, followed by a meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and talks between the delegations of the two countries.

A number of agreements are expected to be signed between Cyprus and Qatar regarding bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, energy, desalination, water waste treatment and legal affairs.

During his short stay, Anastasiades will visit the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, meet with representatives of the Qatari Islamic Bank, and a delegation of the Qatari Business Association.

In the evening, the Cypriot delegation will attend a reception hosted by the Cyprus Embassy in Doha, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEVE) and the Cyprus Qatar Business Association.

On Tuesday, the president will address the Business Forum organised by KEVE and the responding Chamber of Qatar, under the auspices of the Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Thani.

A protocol of cooperation will be signed between the Chambers of Commerce of Cyprus and Qatar.

Afterwards, Anastasiades will meet with representatives of the real estate investment company Qatari Diar.

The president and the Cypriot delegation will return to Cyprus on Tuesday evening.
