New sculpture unveiled in Ayia Napa

A marble sculpture created by two Ukrainian artists that is 2.8m tall, gained a prime place in Ayia Napa on Friday.

Approved by the municipal council, the artwork titled Fish was created by Yuri and Lyudmyla Mysko during the first phase of Ayia Napa’s fifth sculpture symposium.

The theme of the 2.8m tall sculpture, created with white Kavalas marble, is connected to the harbour area where it has been placed and the city’s residents, many of whom had in the past hailed from or been them-selves fishermen.

Ayia Napa mayor Yiannis Carouses said he was satisfied there was yet another landmark point of reference that could be classed as a jewel for the city and an improvement to the aesthetics of the harbour area.

“We have set it as our goal that projects created in the two phases of the fifth symposium, particularly those of white Kavalas marble, be placed, apart from the sculpture park, around different parts of our city so that we create new reference points in our municipality.”
