Lactalis baby products recalled from market

The health ministry on Tuesday recalled baby formula produced by French dairy giant Lactalis as a precaution after salmonella bacteria were detected in some of the brand’s products in France.

France banned the sale of the products on Sunday and ordered a global recall of several baby milk and baby food products made by Lactalis, following 20 cases earlier in the month of salmonella infection of infants.

According to consumer protection agency DGCCRF, Lactalis, the world’s largest dairy company, had not managed contamination risk and has been ordered to conduct a product recall and halt the sale and export of several baby food products made at its Craon plant in western France since February 15.

The health ministry said that even though there was no official information as regards the distribution of these products in the Cypriot market, following checks the baby formula Frezylac was found in shops.

The health ministry said the measure is temporary and is precautionary until the investigation by the French authorities is complete.

Consumers who have these products in their possession are urged not to feed them to their children.
