Plastic spatulas recalled

The state health services on Tuesday recalled two plastic slotted spatulas after lab tests that showed that the primary aromatic amines (PAA) released by the products were at higher levels than those permitted by law.

PAAs are a group of chemical compounds sometimes added to plastics during production. In animal testing the PAAs have been shown to be related to cancer.

The health ministry released the details of the two products:

Both products bear warnings that they are heat resistant up to 210C.

The health services said they have already informed the companies distributing these two products and asked them to recall them immediately.

Consumers who have bought them are urged to stop using them and return them to where they bought them from.
