Adult panto to raise funds for charities

Hoping to raise thousands for charity, an adult panto will get underway in Polis Chrysochous on Wednesday evening ahead of four further shows in Paphos.

Peter Pants is the latest offering from Premier Electric, a British owned electrical shop with stores in Paphos and Limassol, and follows in the wake of three years playing to packed audiences.

The shows have raised around €70,000 for local charities and this year it will support the Friends Hospice Paphos and the Paphos Cancer Patients Support Group.

The business’s Colin Fender said he started the show as someone challenged him and partner Louise Robinson saying they ‘wouldn’t be able to do it’.

“We thought it would be fun and that we could raise money for charities at the same time, but this year will be our last, as it takes up so much of our time,” he said.

Fender said he is hoping to raise around €10,000 to €15,000 for this year’s charities, which were chosen for the marvelous job they both do.

The Friends Hospice opened in 2006 and has treated over 1,000 patients offering free palliative and respite care. It is housed in a dedicated six-bed wing at St George’s Polyclinic in Paphos.

The Cancer Patients Support Group was founded in 1995 to provide help and financial support to Pasykaf Home Nursing Service, who help cancer patients of all nationalities in the district of Paphos.
Peter Pants has a cast of around 15 and each year the script is bought from a UK rugby club for a nominal fee. They then adapt the script for Cyprus audiences, Fender said.
