Man wanted for assault and theft

Police are searching for a 21-year-old man in connection with the robbery on Friday of a 75-year-old man who was assaulted and tied up in his Limassol home before the attackers removed a safe, containing jewellery and cash worth around €120,000 and fled in his car.

Police have issued a search warrant against Kristefore Mangiashvili from Georgia and are searching for two more persons. The three are believed to be members of a robbery ring.

According to police, the man, who lives alone in a holiday home in Paramytha, Limassol, realised three intruders had broken into his home at around 10am on Friday.

They assaulted him and tied him up before removing a safe, which contained jewellery and cash worth around €120,000, as well as two hunting rifles.

The three robbers fled the scene in the victim’s car, a black Mercedes, which police located later in the day in an area in Paramytha.

The man was able to break free at 2pm, at which point he notified police of the incident.

CID police rushed to the scene in search of evidence that might help identify the robbers.

The 75-year-old described his attackers as young, slim, approximately 1.70 metres tall, and police suspect they had known about the safe and its contents, possibly after staking out their target.

During the robbery, they had covered their faces with red scarves and wore sunglasses and hats.

Police urge anyone who may possess information that could help locate the suspect, to call the Limassol CID at 25 805057, the Kalo Horio police station at 25 813800, the nearest police station, or the Citizen Hotline at 1460.
