Health deal with private sector for eye tests and MRIs

The cabinet on Wednesday approved a complementary programme for the purchase of health services by the private sector for eye tests and MRI scans with the aim of reducing waiting lists in state hospitals.

The programme covers 20,000 eye tests at a price of €40 per examination. The MRI scans at a price of €135 each were approved during the same session, at a total cost of €675,000.

The cabinet also authorised Health Minister Giorgos Pamborides to purchase health services from the private sector island wide.

The €1,475,000 needed for the purchase of the eye tests and MRI scans will be paid for out of the health ministry’s budget.
