Boy hit by car

A nine-year-old boy is undergoing treatment after he was hit by a car while standing next to an electricity pole outside his father’s supermarket in Ipsonas in the Limassol district.

The accident occurred at around 8pm when the driver of the car, a 60-year-old man, lost control of his car in circumstances still under investigation.

The car first collided into the wall of an Ipsonas supermarket before hitting an electricity pole and the nine-year-old boy, son of the supermarket owner, who happened to be next to the pole at the time.

The nine-year-old was rushed to Limassol general hospital where he underwent surgery for a thigh bone fracture.

A police spokesman said the boy’s condition remains serious, though he is out of danger.

The driver was tested for alcohol consumption but came up clean. His son and the son’s friend were also in the car, suffering only minor injuries as a result of the accident.
