Kiosk owner fined for smuggled tobacco

Customs officials confiscated on Monday a large number of cigarettes and more than 15 kilogrammes of tobacco that had been purchased in the north, in a kiosk in Latsia, in the Nicosia district.

Customs and police officers found 23 packages each containing 200 packs of cigarettes and more than 15 kg of smoking tobacco and nargile tobacco, total worth €4,000.

The 54-year-old business owner, who admitted that the tobacco products were bought from the north, was arrested. He was released after paying a €6,000 fine.
