Demonstrators remind leaders of their duty

Hundreds of Greek and Turkish Cypriots demonstrated in Nicosia on Wednesday to demand the reunification of the island.

Members of parties, unions and ordinary Cypriots assembled in the buffer zone cutting through Ledra Street, as the Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders, Greece, Turkey and the UK, were holding a conference in Geneva in a bid to settle the decades-old problem.

The demonstrators held flags that read ‘Peace’ and placards saying ’50 years of failed negotiations. Solve it now’ and ‘#unitecyprusnow.

Members of the bicommunal #UniteCyprusnow platform, which have been holding gatherings every day for weeks in Nicosia’s buffer zone, are also represented in Crans-Montana.

Holding banners with slogans saying “Keep your promise, unite Cyprus”, “Solution now”, “Anastasiades, Akinci, the future of Cyprus is in your own hands”, and flags writing “Peace” both in Greek and Turkish, they have been stationed outside the conference centre where the Conference on Cyprus is taking place.
