Romanian pair arrested for carrying a gun

POLICE ARE baffled why two Romanians, arrested early yesterday morning in Latsia, were in possession of a pistol, some copper, cable-cutters and four rings.

The two, aged 25 and 29, were remanded for seven days by Nicosia district court.

Police spokesman Andreas Angelides said the car of the two Romanians was stopped at 2.30am for a routine check by a rapid response unit patrol and found the items upon searching the vehicle.

“All of the items were confiscated as evidence while the two men were later given a seven-day remand,” he added.
