‘Beaches should be put under junior tourism ministry’

Beach administration should be placed under a junior ministry for tourism and all relevant legislations must be reviewed and consolidated, Interior Minister Constantinos Petrides said on Tuesday.

Petrides said three ministries were now involved in the administration of the island’s beaches, nine separate bodies, and a series of laws and rules, without any coordination, and their one thing in common was the lack of knowledge on beach management.

“Beach administration must be placed under the junior ministry for tourism,” he said. “The interior ministry has no specialization on the subject. All these laws must be consolidated into one, through their review, so that they can serve contemporary needs.”
