Health minister: vested interests threatening Gesy

Health Minister Giorgos Pamboridis said last night a last-ditch effort by vested interests was afoot to scupper the national health scheme (Gesy).

It was around 10pm when the minister tweeted that there was a “last-ditch effort in progress by the establishment to scupper Gesy. They are seeking a political leader to play the role of Judas. They probably found him … “

Asked by a reporter to name and shame the people behind the bid, Pamboridis said “as regards the name, it will become apparent. As for the shame, I don’t think there is still such a concept in the land of saints.”

In a third tweet the minister said when it was all over he was going to write a book so that people would get to know what games were played by politicians and vested interests.

Bills that would enable rolling out the Gesy are scheduled to be voted by parliament on June 16.

Last week, after the House health committee signed off on the three bills, the minister said it was the end of a long and painful procedure on the reform of the healthcare sector, (state hospital) autonomy, employment issues concerning the autonomy, and Gesy.

At the time, Pamboridis thanked the committee and all political parties for their constructive stance during the discussion of the bills
