Anastasiades condemns attack on Papademos

PRESIDENT Nicos Anastasiades on Thursday evening condemned the apparent attack in Athens against former Greek prime minister Lucas Papademos.

“Shocked by the cowardly attack against the former prime minister of Greece Lucas Papademos. I hope he overcomes any danger,” Anastasiades tweeted.

Earlier in the evening, Papademos was injured by an explosion inside his car in Athens.

Reports said the blast may have been caused by a letter bomb.

Papademos, 69, was appointed caretaker prime minister in November 2011, serving in the post until May 2012.

He has also served as vice-president of the European Central Bank, and is a former Goldman Sachs executive.
