North has 60,000 students

THE NUMBER of students studying in universities in the north exceeds 60,000 and is expected to reach 100,000 within a certain timeframe, said Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu.

According to Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris, Eroglu made the comment during an address of an academic youth forum, organised by the friendship association of Azerbaijan and the breakaway regime.

He noted that more than half of university students in the breakaway regime are from Turkey, while around 11,000 are from third countries.

Eroglu argued that the large presence of international students sent out the message that “de facto a state exists here”.
