Man shot at for chasing suspected stolen car

A 53-YEAR-OLD man was threatened with a shotgun on Sunday after he gave chase to the driver of a car he suspected was stolen from him a few months earlier.

Police said the 53-year-old started chasing a car, which was identical to his, on the Nicosia to Limassol motorway at about 4.45pm on Sunday.

Police said he had spotted a car with different licence plates to the one stolen from him in August but otherwise identical.

The man became suspicious because he noticed the licence plates did not match the car’s age.

At some point after taking the Moutayiaka exit, the car stopped and a man emerged from the front passenger side window, threatening the 53-year-old with a firearm. The type of firearm was not immediately known.

The man fled as several shots were fired, some hit the fleeing car’s rear wheels.
