Two great stories told in black and white

Two composers, Giorgos Hatzinasios and Giorgos Theofanous, will come together for two performances next week in support of the charity organisation Hope for Children.

Theofanous, who is also the Goodwill Ambassador of the Hope for Children organisation, is a Greek-Cypriot composer and producer. He studied guitar, piano and music theory at the national conservatory of Greece and then went on to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

After his studies, he settled in Athens, where he began his music career with his then wife, singer Evridiki.

He has sold more than two million records and wrote more than 500 songs in the 1990s and 2000s. He has written and produced music for a number of recording artists, including Nana Mouskouri and Giorgos Dalaras.

His work has received a total of nine Arion Awards in Greece, and he has composed three Cyprus entries for the Eurovision song contest.

Hatzinasios, from Thessaloniki, comes from a long line of artists. His father, Agapiou Hatzinasios was a music teacher at the Thessaloniki Conservatory and is considered to be one of the greatest Saxophone players in Greece.

The composer started to study music at the age of six and at 14 he was already an acclaimed piano player. During his long career, Hatzinasios has written songs for film and recording artists, and also wrote the music for the opera El Greco in 1985.

The two composers will each take to their pianos on Monday in Limassol and on Tuesday in Nicosia, to share their musical career stories with the audiences.

These unique performances will support the work done by Hope for Children, which aims to advocate and protect children’s rights based on the standards and principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and European Union Law.
