Film gets people talking

The Europe Direct Information Centre (Edic), Nicosia is organising four evenings of screenings under the title European Film Nights Festival on Wednesday and Thursday this and next week at Home for Cooperation.

The four-day festival will include films from around the world, focusing on separate thematic areas of particular concern in our region of the world. There will be a panel discussion with representatives of NGOs who are currently active in the respective thematic areas in the field in Cyprus on each day of the festival.

The festival will begin tomorrow with the screening of the short films Malak and the Boat and the documentary On the Bride’s Side. Both these films deal with the theme of migration and refugee rights.

On Thursday the Cypriot-based amateur video Together above the Borders will be screened. This video received the European Voluntary Service award. The film Edukators, which deals with youth and unemployment will also be shown.

Next week on Wednesday the short film Escaping Extremism and the documentary Holy Wars will be shown. The theme of religious extremism will be discussed.

On Thursday December 1, the festival will end with the films Karsiliksiz/ Insufficient – by Cypriot filmmaker Rahme Veziroglu, Hand’s On: Women, Climate, Change, and Wrong Time, Wrong Place. The theme to be discussed is women’s rights.
