Bar review: The Wine Bar, Limassol

From the name alone, it’s easy to work out where this bar review is heading – wine bars are the ultimate drinking experience for the encroaching winter nights. There is nothing a great glass of wine cannot fix and as the air gets colder the full taste of a fruity red is all that separates me from a stress-free night.

Décor wise, The Wine Bar is pleasantly inspired by the world of wine, to put bluntly. It permeates in earth tones and includes splashes of wine decor to give the place a distinct character and also an elegant yet friendly atmosphere. The large glass wine cava works as the centerpiece of the place, inspiring all who visit a gander at trying any or as many types of wine as they can. Another interesting touch were the table centerpieces, a bottle of wine with a wood bark panel that holds two wine glasses; if all of these won’t awaken your wine appetite, I do not know what will.

As far as the wine menu is concerned, their selections are heavily based on French, Italian, Greek and Cypriot wine covering both ends of the price spectrum, ranging up to an €84 bottle of Barolo. Thus the place does try to take into account all aspects of the wine-drinking experience. And they do have special offers – if you do not want to break the bank by opening a bottle of wine that may run in the hundreds, you can easily just order a glass of it at the affordable price of €24.

Our bottle of Chianti was served as it should be, in a decanter with the servers keeping a keen eye on refills. The only slight damper I might say, and this is because in Limassol location is vital to a place’s success, is where it is. It is quiet, which is great, but being too quiet is what is not great.

All in all, this is a must visit place and if you complement your wine with the fresh cheese or meat platters you are guaranteed a night of tasteful relaxation.
