First round exit for Marcos in Tokyo

Marcos Baghdatis was beaten by top seed Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro in the first round of the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championship.

Baghdatis took the first set 6-4 but the Argentinians powerful baseline play proved too much for the Cyprus champion who lost the next two sets 6-4 and 6-3.

Del Potro, a late addition following the withdrawal of Andy Murray through injury, now meets Argentine compatriot Carlos Berlocq in the second round.
