The fields of science and economics

Nicosia will be teaching a thing or two about science and economics at the end of the week.

On the scientific side, the European University will host the fourth International Mulithematic Scientific Bio-Medical Congress on Friday and Saturday.

The congress, under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, will present key speaker Professor Dr Thomas Lindahl, a Swedish-born British scientist specialising in cancer research who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry jointly with American chemist Paul L Modrich and Turkish chemist Aziz Sancar for mechanistic studies of DNA repair.

While the European University will bring us closer to understanding DNA repair, the Bank of Cyprus main branch will present a number of speakers who will be talking about financial illiteracy.

During the two-hour conference participants will hear from Dr Costas Mavridis (member of the European Parliament’s Finance Committee), Dr George Kyriacou (Director of the Central Bank of Cyprus), Nicholas Hatzigiannis (Director of Central Cooperative Bank’s Economic Analysis and Research sector), Dr Dennis Philip (Professor at Durham University), Dr Constantinos Georgiou (Inspector of Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education) and Dr Panagiotis Andreou (Assistant Professor of Finance Cyprus University of Technology).
