US, Germany donate €222,700 to CMP (Update)

THE Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) on Friday expressed its thanks to the United States and Germany for their donations amounting to around €222,700 made in support of its work.

The contribution of the US, $136,780 – around €122,700 – is allocated to the committee to fund the new CMP Archival Research Coordinator position. This brings the United States’ financial assistance to the CMP to a total of €846,840 over the past ten years.

Germany’s contribution, €100,000, is to fund the CMP Project on the Exhumation, Identification and Return of Remains of Missing Persons in Cyprus.

This brings the German financial assistance to the CMP to a total of €400,000 over the past ten years, it said.

The donations “will contribute to the Committee’s goal of identifying and returning as many remains of missing individuals as possible in order to bring an end to the uncertainty which has affected so many families for so many years,” the CMP said.

So far, 699 missing persons from both communities have been identified and returned to their families for a dignified burial.

The CMP relies on donor support to alleviate the suffering of families of missing persons.
