Wearable art: Pierre Cardin’s avant-garde contribution to fashion

This animated fashion film illustrates the life and legacy of couturier Pierre Cardin, a titan of design for nearly seven decades, who passed away on December 29, 2020 at the age of 98.

Cardin’s famous name embossed everything from wristwatches to bedsheets, after his iconic Space Age styles shot him into the fashion stratosphere in the 1960s.

Here, we encounter Cardin’s reflections on his industry, and meet fashion legends in their own right – André Leon Talley, Jean Paul Gaultier, Maryse Gaspard and Jim Bittermann – who recount how Cardin transformed the world with his avant-garde sensibility and prescient vision.
