President says will spend New Year’s Eve at home with his wife

President Nicos Anastasiades on Wednesday said he would spend New Year’s Eve at home with his wife, without their children and grandchildren.

In a bid to set a good example, the president announced he would welcome the new year alone with his wife Andri.

“In response to the questions people reasonably ask, I assure you that as all citizens will respect the decrees and protocols, I too will celebrate the coming of the new year at my house with my wife, without my children and grandchildren,” he tweeted.

According to the latest decree, house visits are banned until January 10. Relaxations were announced for New Year’s Eve, where up to 10 people, including minors, from no more than two different households will be allowed to meet.
