Coronavirus: another death, 266 new cases on Sunday (Updated)

The health ministry on Sunday announced that a man aged 81 with underlying conditions had died from Covid-19 at the Nicosia general hospital.

The latest death brings the total to 112, 73 men and 39 women with an average age of 79.

It also announced 266 new cases through PCR testing of which 134 were people who tested positive with rapid testing in previous days, bringing the total number of people who were deemed positive since March to 19,657.

In all, 5,925 tests were carried out during the latest round of testing 1,970 with PCR and 3,955 with rapid tests. From the latter 238 more positives were detected that must be confirmed with PCR.

There are 154 Covid patients in hospitals, of which 57 are in serious condition, and of those, 25 are intubated.

The latest PCR testing produced 90 cases from contact tracing, 16 from samples taken through private initiative, 19 through hospital labs, and seven through GP referrals, plus the 134 from the previous rapid tests.

From 450 tests done at the island’s airports, no positive cases were detected.
