Retail, wholesale trade activity down

Both retail and wholesale trade activity dipped significantly during the first three quarters of the year, the statistical service said in a press release on Tuesday.

In the first quarter of 2020 the Turnover Value Index of Wholesale Trade Except for Motor Vehicles fell 5.5 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2019.

For the first three quarters – January to September – the same index was down 7.2 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Also down was the Turnover Value Index of Wholesale and Retail Trade and Repair of Motor Vehicles. The index decreased by 0.3 per cent in the first quarter, and by 10.7 per cent during the first three quarters, compared to the corresponding time periods of last year.
