Coronavirus: two deaths, 242 new cases on Sunday (Updated)

The health ministry announced two more deaths and 242 new Covid cases on Sunday of which 149 were people who tested positive with rapid tests in previous days and were confirmed with PCR from 1,831 tests.

The two deaths were a woman aged 89 who died in Limassol hospital and a man aged 72 who died in Nicosia hospital. Both had underlying conditions but Covid is listed as the cause of death.

Another 180 people tested positive in a new round of 5,397 rapid tests, which must now be confirmed by PCR.

The latest deaths brings the total to 91, of which 59 were men and 32 women. The average age of those who have died is 78.

In total, 125 patients are being treated in Okypy hospitals, of whom 28 are in serious condition. Of the 28 patients who are critical, 13 are intubated.

From the 1,831 laboratory diagnoses performed on Sunday to produce the 242 positives, aside from the 149 confirmations from recent rapid tests, 55 people were detected through contact tracing, 23 from cases through private initiative testing, 14 from hospital labs, and one from 212 GP referrals.
