Numbats: kangaroos’ endangered, lesser-known cousins

Australia is famed for its wildlife diversity and home to many unique species. One of them is the numbat, a small, termite-eating marsupial that lives in forests right across the country.

Unfortunately, the numbat is highly endangered, with only 1,000 left in the wild. Human settlement and the introduction of predators like foxes and cats have decimated their numbers.

Researchers are collecting data in order to try to protect them, but intelligent numbats like Lena, featured in the video, don’t always make it easy for them!
