Tzionis double gives Omonia win against Pafos FC

Two goals by Cypriot striker Marinos Tzonis were enough to give Omonia a 2-1 win against battling Pafos FC in the game that completed round 14 of the Cyprus football championship on Monday evening in Nicosia.

Omonia opened the score in the 37th minute through Tzionis after Paphos’ goalkeeper Rudko had saved at the feet of Tiago, but the ball fell invitingly at the feet of the Omonia striker who had no problem tapping the ball into an empty net.

Paphos equalised just before the break after goalkeeper Panagi got into a terrible tangle with his defenders, first with Lang and then with Kousoulos, allowing former Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon to score from the edge of the penalty area.

Omonia regained the lead in the 79th minute after Tiago set up Tzionis who fired the ball past Rudko.

With the win Omonia leapfrogged over Olympiakos into 5th place but still trail leaders Apollon by 6 points, who also have a game in hand.
