Coronavirus: One death, 301 new cases recorded (updated)

One person died on Sunday from Covid-19, bringing the total in Cyprus to 78, as the ministry of health announced 301 new cases, meaning the total has risen to 15,101.

The person who died was a woman aged 84 who had no underlying health conditions. She was being treated at the Limassol general hospital.

This means 51 men and 27 women have died from Covid-19, with an average age of 78.

The 301 cases included 95 confirmations of rapid tests of previous days. A total of 2,427 PCR tests were carried out and 7,418 rapid tests, of which 202 were positive and will need to be confirmed with a PCR test in coming days.

Of the positive cases 107 were through contact tracing of known cases, while 70 were from private initiative.

A total of 25 cases were from hospital labs and two from recommendations of GPs.

Two cases were from two tests taken as part of a programme to monitor those in care homes. Both were from the old people’s home in Evrychou, bringing the total number of cases there to 14.

Ninety five cases were from 96 tests carried out to confirm rapid tests that came out positive over previous days.

Among the positive rapid tests 23 were found in Limassol, 47 in Larnaca, 96 in Nicosia, three in Paphos and 18 in Famagusta. From tests carried out on teachers, seven cases were found as were four at the Pournara migrant reception centre. Four were also found through rapid tests carried out at private labs.

Meanwhile 120 people are being treated in hospital, 15 in a serious condition.

There are 69 patients at the Famagusta general hospital, four in the high dependency unit. In Nicosia general hospital there are 24 patients, 11 in intensive care, where only one was not intubated.

Nineteen patients are being treated in Limassol general hospital and nine in the Makarios hospital.
