Coronavirus: Two deaths, 403 new cases (updated)

The health services on Thursday announced two deaths from Covid-19 and 403 new cases.

The cases include 152 rapid tests of previous days, which were confirmed through PCR.

According to a statement, 106 people are being treated in hospital, 20 in serious condition. There are 13 patients in the ICU of Nicosia General, three of them off the ventilator.

The total number of cases since March has reached 14,052. Cyprus now counts 72 deaths, 47 men and 25 women. The average age is 77.

The two new deaths are a man aged 81 with pre-existing conditions who was in the ICU of Nicosia Hospital and a woman aged 83, also with pre-existing conditions who had been taken to Famagusta General from a care home.

The ministry said there were another 236 positive rapid tests, but these must be confirmed by PCR.

A total of 14,567 tests were carried out on Thursday of which 3736 PCR and the remainder rapid tests. Of these 98 positive cases were from contact tracing (819 tests), 124 from private initiative (1549 tests) and 22 from hospital labs (265 tests). Four were from the school population (306 tests), three from migrant facilities (29 tests) and 152 were from 165 rapid tests that were verified.

There were no positive results from 476 tests among arriving passengers and 127 tests from referrals. As regards rapid tests, there were 236 positive results from 10,831 tests – 14 in Limassol, 70 in Larnaca, 78 in Nicosia, 13 in Paphos, 21 in Famagusta, 32 from private initiative, none in the national guard, two in the public sector and six among health professionals.
