If the UK’S objective is ‘sovereignty’ and ‘regulatory freedom’ then a Brexit deal is out of the question

Some people appear to be leaning towards the idea that Johnson’s government knows what it’s doing and therefore should we leave with no deal, it will be the result of measured deliberations on our part and unreasonable demands by the EU.

Such a view demonstrates, on the one hand, the absolute ignorance of Brexiteers and their supporters, or if Johnson does have a clear objective, then it is for no deal.

It’s very simple really.

If the UK’S objective is “sovereignty” and “regulatory freedom” then a trade deal is out of the question. “Sovereignty and regulatory freedom” is the thing you give up on when you sign trade deals. This is why the original Conservative Leavers not only opposed our membership of the EU but also opposed the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the USA.

If Johnson is serious about “sovereignty and regulatory freedom” then he has no, and never has had any intention of signing a trade deal with the EU.

If he does agree to a trade deal with the EU then he will have given up on “sovereignty and regulatory freedom” and will have put himself at the mercy of the “Brexit headbangers” for misleading them all along.
