Low-key lighting of Nicosia’s Christmas lights (video)

Nicosia municipality on Saturday said it was officially in a festive mood after lighting up its Christmas tree and decorations.

The lighting of the Christmas tree was done by the deputy mayor of Nicosia, Costas Mavridis. Local authorities avoid announcing the day and time of the lighting of their Christmas trees to avoid crowds due to the pandemic.

The municipality released a video with its decorations to “convey the spirit of Christmas with safety”.

Sending out a message of hope, it said: “The difficulties will pass. Together we will succeed …”
