Coronavirus: Two deaths, 369 new cases (Updated)

The health ministry announced two deaths and a record 369 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday out of 4,007 PCR tests.

One hundred and sixteen of the new cases were PCR verifications of positive rapid tests carried out in previous days.

The two deaths were an 81-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman. They both had underlying health conditions but coronavirus was the cause of death.

This brings the total number of deaths caused by Covid-19 to 59: 38 men and 21 women. The median age of people who have died from Covid-19 is 76.

According to the health ministry, 100 of the cases recorded on Saturday were from contact tracing, and 131 concern people who got tested privately.

Four cases are people who arrived from abroad.

Another 15 cases were samples processed in state hospitals’ labs and one case was among tests carried out in nursing homes. Two people were found positive after being referred for testing by their family physicians.

Another 116 cases were among 123 samples taken for the confirmation of positive rapid tests detected during testing in the previous days.

The total number of cases is now 12,181.

The ministry also said that 5,737 rapid tests were given on Saturday and 181 were positive. These cases will now have to be confirmed through PCR tests.

Of the 181 positive, 20 were in the Limassol district, 63 in Larnaca, 81 in Nicosia, two in Paphos and 15 in the Famagusta district.

According to the health ministry 119 patients with Covid-19 are being treated in state hospitals, 16 in critical condition.
