Fines for using an underused bus lane do not make sense

Not sure when last you drove on the fairly newly constructed road leading from the University of Cyprus through Aglandjia.

The construction, at a cost of a couple of million euros, has widened the road from one lane both ways to two lanes.

To my astonishment, those caught using the left lane get a €85 fine because it’s a bus lane only. Does anyone have an idea how many buses actually use that road per day?

I am 100 per cent sure it’s not enough to justify spending all that money to ease traffic and then still only allow cars to use one lane. Does this make any sense?

If the traffic department just drove 50 metres up the road, they would have found two trucks, half on the pavement and half on the road. It seems blocking one lane does not warrant any action but using the left-hand (bus) lane warrants an €85 fine.
