North counts cost of recent weather damage

Report from the north on Friday said 62 houses, 18 buildings and 20 cars were damaged by a tornado in Kyrenia last week and by the extreme weather conditions in Yialousa.

Forty-four houses, another 17 buildings and 18 cars were damaged from a tornado in Ayios Epiktito in Kyrenia on November 20. Three people were slightly injured, while electricity poles were cut in half.

In Lapithos, three houses suffered damaged and are no longer inhabitable, while another ten suffered minor damages, mainly to furniture.

Yialousa recorded damage to 15 houses, three greenhouses with citrus trees, a milk production facility, a number of trees and two cars. The damage were caused by heavy rain and hail.

The issue will be addressed following the formation of the new ‘government’ in the north following last month’s election.
