Coronavirus: 310 new cases announced on Friday (Update)

The health ministry on Friday announced 310 new cases of coronavirus confirmed through PCR testing of which 94 were people who tested positive with rapid testing in previous days.

Following some confusion with Friday’s totals, the ministry clarified that the total was 216 plus another 94 from the rapid tests.

In total 12,895 tests were done, roughly half of which were PCR and the other half rapid tests.

From 6,311 new rapid tests, 78 people were found positive. Their results must now be confirmed with PCR.

The latest 310 PCR positives came about from 6,584 tests. Of these, 98 were detected through contact tracing, while 71 cases were people who got tested privately.

Another 10 cases were among lab tests processed in labs of state hospitals, and two more were among samples taken after referrals from family doctors and tests among special groups.

Twenty-four cases were among tests given to workers who wished to travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos districts; 13 were from Limassol, six from Larnaca, one case was recorded in Nicosia and four in Paphos.

Three cases were among tests in nursing homes and another was detected among samples from schools.

Another seven cases concern migrants.

The total number of cases is now at 9,983.

As regards the latest rapid tests given on Friday, 78 were found positive with the more than half, 41, found in the Nicosia district. Sixteen cases were recorded in Larnaca, 11 in Paphos, 5 in Famagusta and 4 in Limassol. One case was found during tests in army camps.

In total 108 patients with Covid-19 are being treated in state hospitals.
