Coronavirus: One death and 127 new cases recorded on Sunday (updated)

An 82-year-old woman died from coronavirus on Sunday, the ministry of health said as it announced 127 new cases.

The cases were the result of 3,333 tests and bring to 7,178 the total number of cases recorded on the island so far.

The woman who died had underlying health conditions. Her death brings to 40 the total number of patients who have died from Covid-19, 24 men and 16 women with an average age of 75.

Among the new cases, 67 were found as a result of tracing the contacts of known cases and the result of 638 tests.

From 898 tests carried out in private labs, 29 cases were found.

A total of 244 cases carried out at the labs of state hospitals found one case.

Twenty cases were found among 250 tests carried out on the orders of personal doctors or among special medical groups.

Two more were found among 22 tests carried out on students, teachers and other school workers.

Another two were found among the ongoing programme to test footballer players at Kop teams and academies.

Six cases were found among 118 tests on migrants.

No cases were found among 391 tests on arriving passengers at the airports and 650 tests taken as part of the pogramme to check workers who are exempt from the travel ban imposed on Limassol and Paphos.

Meanwhile, 54 people with Covid-19 continue to be treated at Famagusta hospital, six in the high dependency unit. A further nine patients are in the intensive care unit of Nicosia general while ten are being treated on the coronavirus ward there.
