Cyprus Symphony Orchestra introduces new conductor

Continuing its evening concerts while it still can, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will next week present an operatic gala with beloved arias, duets and orchestral excerpts. Titled A Night at the Opera, the orchestra will travel to Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos for three performances on November 18, 19 and 20.

For this special programme, two Cypriot opera singers, soprano Zoe Nicolaidou and baritone Stavros Mantis, will take the stage with a different conductor than the one originally planned. Due to travel restrictions related to the current pandemic, Maestro Julius Kalmar will be unable to conduct this concerts series. In his place, Maestro Paolo Bressan will step in at short notice.

“It has really been a bumpy ride,” commented the orchestra, “with all the uncertainties that we have also faced with the travel of the two soloists of this programme. God willing, A Night at the Opera will be taking place!”
