Coronavirus: 185 new cases, one death (updated)

The health ministry on Thursday announced 185 new coronavirus cases and the death of an 86-year old man, a Limassol resident, with serious underlying medical conditions at Famagusta general hospital. The final cause of death was attributed to Covid-19.

The new cases were discovered out of 2,891 tests and raises the total number recorded since March to 6,646.

The total number of deaths from Covid-19 are now 34 —  21 men (62%) and 13 women (38%) and an average age of 75.

The results from the 2891 tests were:

  • 54 from 653 tests from tracing of contacts of previously confirmed cases
  • 107 from 1,127 tests taken by private initiative
  • 16 from 242 tests at hospital labs.
  • 1 from 175 tests from referrals of personal doctors
  • 5 from 270 tests from the programme for pupils, teachers and school staff
  • 1 from one test from the programme for facilities for migrants
  • 1 from 70 tests from the programme carried out by the Cyprus Football Association

There were no positives from 353 tests among passengers.

The ministry said that there are currently 51 patients at Famagusta hospital, the referral hospital for coronavirus. Six are in the high dependency unit which is at full capacity. There are another seven Covid-19 patients in the ICU of Nicosia general, two of them off the ventilator, as well as ten patients in the Covid-19 ward of Nicosia general.
