Coronavirus: Pasydy calls on government to help overworked hospitals’ staff

Civil servants union Pasydy on Tuesday said the increase in the number of daily Covid-19 cases and is very alarming.

“The recently development regarding the pandemic in Cyprus is cause for serious concern,” Pasydy said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, along with the increase of daily cases, the number of patients currently hospitalised is also on the rise.

“The Famagusta reference hospital is on the verge of being full and, on top of that, there are also many coronavirus cases being treated at the Nicosia general hospital, which pose a risk for all the other patients.

“Doctors, nurses, paramedics and hospital workers are urgently appealing for help from the state, as they have been constantly overworked for the past seven months,” Pasydy said.

The union called on the health ministry and on the state health services organisation (Okypy) to respond to the cry for help and hire additional hospital staff.

“The pressure on our health system is increasing every day, the risk of collapse is real so the issue must be addressed as soon as possible, so that we are not caught off-guard,” the statement concluded.
