Revenue from sunbeds and beach umbrellas drops

Ayia Napa municipality saw a more than 70 per cent decrease in revenue from sunbed and beach umbrella rentals this year, compared to the previous year, it emerged on Saturday.

The total income from rentals reached €1m this year, municipal beach inspector Dimitris Pateras told the Cyprus News Agency.

The amount is significantly lower than that of 2019, Pateras added.

Renting sunbeds and umbrellas in organised beaches gave the municipality a €3.6m revenue last year.

“In October, the average income from the beaches did not exceed €25,000,” he said. “In the same month last year, the income exceeded €200,000 from organised beaches.”

This summer, due to the pandemic, the municipality employed less staff with reduced hours.
